To love at all is to be vunerable. Love anything, and your heart will certianly be wrung and possibly broken. IF you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it carful round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in the casket- safe, dark, motionless, airless- it will change. It will not be broken, it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable...The only place out-side heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers of love...is hell- - C.S. Lewis - The Four loves

I wish I had stumbled on this before this morning. With our Junior Highers we were talking about the risks involved in developing healthy peer relationships characterized by commitment, trust, service and sacrifice.

The kids came to much the same conclusion, but that would have been a good quote to throw into the conversation.

Keep reading good stuff!

You're reading CS Lewis! I knew that we would find some mutually enjoyable reading material eventually.

... and you know who CS Lewis was good friends with, right?

That is very insightful. Note to self: love anyway, the hurt is worth it.
